Lol all the reviews live up to the hype! Read them! We stopped in and people were fighting with the old lady. We walked out. Now we are reading all the reviews as a family and cracking up 😂.
This woman knows how to run a business, and you better not misbehave or she will give you a talking to. 😂 The pizza was really good.
Stopped in for lunch while traveling thru. We ordered at counter and my husband went to restroom. Suddenly an older woman came out of kitchen demanding to know what was ordered on what was my husband's sub. She was extremely rude! Food was less than average and two employees repeatedly apologized to me. Several other customers were also treated rudely.. Everything seemed to be an upcharge including use of credit/debit cards. Never again will I pay to be treated so rudely
I am so happy that we didn’t listen to the negative reviews. The food was excellent- tasty pizza hot out of the oven. I believe the proprietor is misunderstood. She was a hoot, we had a wonderful experience even with other customers coming in and out. We encountered a hard working, family oriented woman who was looking to share some humor between delivering food orders. The experience and food were an A+ for us.
The cashier/owner/cook/dishwasher/bus lady will take an hour to getyour food, and charge $2 to use plastic. And when she finally puts your food on the counter will complain to no end about the help. This place must be a front as i can find no other reason why it could still possibly be in business
The worst service and treatment I have recieved. After an hour and 20 min I asked to cancel the order and get a refund. The manager called the police after I asked. When the police arrived we finally got our money back. The manager refused to even talk to me until they arrived. Don't waste your time and money at this place. It was dirty and being a chef by trade saw at least a dozen violations of health code.
No nonsense service, homemade tomato sauce and great pizza.
Never again.... How can you call yourself a pizza place? We ordered a pizza and then almost 20 minutes later she offered us the choice of fully cooked dough or burnt cheese. Well we voted for our money back... the owner was distracted, overly talkative and kind of rude.
I would not even rate this place. Better to avoid due to rude behavior and you can make better pizza at home. The old lady at the counter who took my order was outrageously unprofessional and very rude. She did not inform us that there is a change of 20% extra, if you are using credit card. She will show the bill but at the time of charging it , she will charge you extra. I would have gladly used cash, if she would have told me beforehand about the charged. Also, she is the only one who was making the food and taking orders too. She took around 1 hour to get our order ready. Also, she denied taking orders for other group of people and asked them to leave. Her behavior is so rude towards customer. When we were leaving, she asked us to clean the table just like you do at home. Also, she was using same hands for taking order and making food and was not even using gloves to make thé pizaa.
The food is outstanding, from the fresh baked rolls & dough to the high quality meat & vegetables. Some days are in & out & days there is a wait as u would expect being a small establishment. All & all great Italian food out on a porch that overlooks the river below. 👍
For over 20 years, my girls and I have been coming here for pizza when we visit the White Mountains despite the rudeness of the owner, Barbara. Today was the last straw. When we visited, there was a sign on the counter charging (illegally) $2 for the use of a debit/credit card. So, I decided to use cash and I o ky had a $100 bill. The man behind the counter gave me change and asked Barbara for change for the register. She went into a tirade, right in front of me and my family, called me 'rude' to my face for using the $100 bill and went on and on. My suggestion is to find another pizza place, there are a couple in Lincoln. Why put up with that? Tell her that you won't pay the $2 charge... It is illegal to do.
The woman at the counter who took my order was outrageously unprofessional and mean spirited. After she charged my card, she informed me that she charged me 20% extra for using a credit card instead of cash. I would have gladly used cash if she had told me beforehand about the fee. I went outside for a few minutes while waiting for my sandwich to be ready and then came back in with my nalgene filled with water. She instantly yelled at me for bringing my own beverage into her restaurant even though I was clearly just a hiker rehydrating while ordering a sandwich for the road. I took my sandwich and left as she continued to complain about credit cards and water bottles to the poor family sitting at the booth closest to her.
Yelled at us when our whole party didn't arrive together. Yelled at us when we didn't want to order right away (because we weren't all there yet). Yelled at us again when this rude behavior made us leave without ordering anything. Wouldn't recommend to anyone!
Besides the fact that the owner is incredibly rude, the food is really quite good. If you can get past her attitude the place isn't really that bad, just a quiet local pizza shop in NH. Also don't forget to tell them when you try to pay with credit that charging an additional $2 fee is illegal.
worst people ever, open till 9 and told me they will not take my order at 8. very very rude. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Excellent Italian food. I really don’t know why there are so many bad reviews. I was stuck across the street with car problems so this was my only option. I was worried with all the negative reviews but the food was one of my best Italian meals. I would definitely go back again.
They wouldn’t give us our food and the money they gave us was ripped and wouldn’t give us a new one. The staff yelled at us and ignored us
NOT WORTH 1 STAR. I ONLY gave 1 star to warn people. Do NOT go there. Went with my 1yr old daughter. We had to bring her sippy cup back to the car. The employee said the owner would, “rip it from my daughters hand” if she saw it. She had done it to another child. The food was over priced, took forever, and tasted terrible. I mean terrible. The poor employees were miserable, and clearly treated as poorly as the customers. DO NOT GO THERE.
Walk in and was reading the menu when a family walked in with a water bottle the lady freaked out on them and was really rude in general. We left. she didnt even give them a chance to say anything just start yelling.
I just went here and this was the best decision I have ever made. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves home cooked good meals. Those negative reviews are from people who don’t know good food and a good place
Despite the low rating, we stopped here for some quick lunch on our drive home because we were hungry and happened to be driving by. We got two delicious pizzas which we ate in their outdoor seating area by the river. Would stop here for food again.
We waited 10 min to try to order when the lady finnaly came to the counter we were met with screaming for our bottle of water which was more than half empty saying that it wasn't allowed (80 degree weather with kids). We then proceeded to leave and were met by continued rants. Would give no stars if possible.
You have to have a huge sense of humor to appreciate the experience. The lady (owner?) started to take our order, then her portable phone rang and she walked away. After a few minutes I heard her talking on the other side of the restaurant. I looked around the corner and she told me "she had been on her feet all day and I would have to wait." After that a very nice worker came out, apologized in disbelief, took our order and served us. She (the worker) was great and the food was good.
We go every year after a long day at Whales Tales. The pizza is amazing and the owner is eccentric in way that you can only find in out of the way places like this. Five thumbs up form our whole family!
Very poor service. I made the apparently unforgivable mistake of asking a question about the menu, the response I received was - "Can't you read?" followed by the person taking my order (who I believe is the owner) walking away. I waited 5 minutes but she never came back. We went elsewhere to eat.
The counter lady was very slow getting to us and we saw several people come in and then leave...we probably should've followed suit. After a very long time our food arrived. The pizza was actually pretty good, the mozzarella sticks were nothing special and the garlic bread was only 2 slices. No, I'll not be returning.
Waited almost an hour for our food. The group next to us advised other ppl who were just entering that they were better off at another place. We all agreed we should have looked at the reviews.
Close to hotel so after a long day of travel, it was the obvious choice. Very local and for us, enjoyable experience. Food was well prepared, hot and tasty. Not high on our list of dining must do's, but fine for grabbing a bite before turning in.
We go every year for my Mom's birthday, really excellent food.
I read the reviews after the fact. My own fault but since it was the only place in walking distance we tried. It is very clean well it was very clean what else positive can I say. The entertainment was good and free. The owner Barbara is crazy. Telling every customer some woes of hers such as lugging up 10 cases of soda this that morning or how some paver was stealing her blue gravel. I thought she knew these people as regulars but found out as I waited ( cause we were there for an hour for our food) she complained to everyone who walked in the restaurant. The food was okay just don’t t ask for anything special or if I were you, don’t make eye contact with Barbara and send your wife to the counter to order
Not worth it, I paid almost $40 for 2 small slices of mediocre lasagna and 2 sodas.
Great pizza and a beautiful patio. You can tell the owner is a hard working New Englander! Gotta love a place with character :)
This place is a mixed bag of weird, especially regarding the owner. Read some of the other comments. I have no doubts as to their validity as I have experienced much the same... no need to go over it again. The lasagna here is very good but if you want great pizza go to GH on Main Street.
Sure, the prices aren’t that of Dominies and the Portions maybe smaller than a chain restaurant but what you get in exchange is great pizza and a unique experience of an independent restaurant in the Notch. Look around, the area is a time warp- it’s vintage and delightful. I have been coming here since the early 90s and the food never disappoints. Sure, the lady can be a little intense on a busy night- I have seen it! But get her one on one on a slow rainy day and it’s fun! She’s old and quirky. The patio by the river is a great spot to enjoy some Homemade pizza and a cold beer after a long hike!
The lady running the place was more interested in complaining to customers, ex-employees she owed back wages to, etc. then waiting on her customers. When I finally got served it was the worst sub sandwich I’d ever had. Then she tacked $2.00 on to my bill for using a credit card rather than cash without warning me. My advice, find some other place to go at.
I would return the food and take back the money in a heartbeat if I could. Food was overpriced and gut wrenchingly salty. BAd experience. Would not recommend at all.
I told us to walk over
great service very friendly timely... well worth it portions are great very clean food tasted very good. Thank you to the owner for such great food!
The proprietor, when told I had a dairy allergy, argued with me that eggs were dairy and I can't have them. Then she said she couldn't hire any help because she's not hiring people at 15 dollars per hour, while people walked out because they were tired of waiting.Interesting experience, kind of owned.
Great food! I have been here a few times and the food is amazing. Order at the counter then sit outside on the deck by the river and enjoy. Great pizza, subs, and pasta.
Idk what everyone one was talking about. I had a fantastic experience at this spot, the lady was a bro. She told fantastic stories about her family. Also the pizza was mad good. It was an all around gt. Only downfall is i dont think people are allowed to use the bathroom there anymore.
The hours are listed as closing at 9:00pm. However when I showed up at 8:15pm to get food, somone was locking the doors and turning off the lights as I was walking towards the door. She just looked at me and then turned around and walked away.
Every year our family stop here for a great Pizza
Only ended up here because phone had no service, and the signs on the highway pointed us here. Very slow service, forgot our pizza. Truly a piece of American culture, though.
This is a great spot for a quick, casual lunch. They have a standard pizza shop menu, and they got our food out quickly — which is awesome when you consider how convenient it would be to stop here on your way up to the mountains. They have some good craft beers on tap, although the selection is a little limited, and their back patio is stunningly beautiful. If you want a quick bite, and you’re not looking for a super fancy meal, stop in!
I went in to use the bathroom before after going on the sled tour next door. I had intentions of eating there after the tour. On my way out from using the bathroom I was confronted very rudely by an angry lady about using the bathroom. There was absolutely no need for the nastiness that came out of her mouth. I imagine that if their food and service is as good as her attitude I should probably skip it. I do not recommend.
zo’s instead. Only went here because it was closed on Tuesdays. Ordered a pizza and sandwich, pizza came out and sandwich wasn’t started until after we got our pizza. Owner is the only one working. After she finally wheels out the sandwich, makes us get our own plates and everything, 20 minutes after the pizza came out, she complains about being the only employee because they all steal from her using vulgar language. Meanwhile, I asked for a fountain soda and never received it and she had to charge separately for it, luckily we had a few dollars on us because she charges $2 to use a card. As we are eating the pizza and sandwich a customer comes in to pick up their order they had called in while ours was being made and she takes their money yet forgot about the order and had to remake it, assuming it was burnt or not made yet because she was too busy talking. I highly recommend Enzo’s instead.
Cannot rate the food as we weren't able to put in an order after waiting for at least 20 minutes. Extremely rude counter help, when asked a question she responded read the menu and then walked away. Bathroom floor was all wet. Would not recommend.
Fast service, reasonable price for the location, and good pizza. We will be back!
The food tasted delicious. It did take awhile for our pizza which would have been fine but they forgot the pasta so it wasnt ready until we had completely eaten the pizza. The size of the pasta was pretty small as well. We wouldn't stop here again.
